Pennies could do a lot of things! Like pennies for Peace gives you the tools to open your world and empower communities through education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The goal was for wealthy countries to give foreign aid to impoverished nations each year.
ReplyDeleteThe Balti people, in northeastern Pakistan, originally emigrated from Tibet hundreds of years ago. They made their new home in the Karakoram Mountains, some of the most rugged and remote mountains in the world. Trekkers and mountain climbers now travel to Baltistan to hike and climb K2, the 2nd highest mountain in the world, and the surrounding peaks.
there was no school. Before returning home, Greg made a promise to help the community construct a school. Today, students learn subjects based on the Government curriculum, including Urdu, Science, English, Islamic Studies, Social Studies and Mathematics.

A penny is just 1% of a dollar, but just this penny,it can buy a pencil and open the door to literacy for children in Pakistan and Afghanistan.By read "feature village",I learned the Balti people emigrated from Tibet of China before hundreds years. So their ancestors were Chinese.By the seasons change, they need to change their living place. In the summer, they need to move higher, there are abundant food for animals. The feature school was built by Greg Mortenson in 1996.He had collected the money to build this school for three years. It was a hard experience for him. Now,the students have many subjects, such as Science,English,Urdu,Math,History and Islamic Studies. There are three facts about Afghanistan.Afghanistan was unified as a country in 1747.From 1819 to 1919,Afghanistan was controled by British. Now the general education levels is Primary school 1-6, the secondary school is 7-12.Also,there are three facts about Pakistan.Pakistan was founded on August 14, 1947 as an independent Muslim State. The education is divided into six levels. The Primary school is 1-5.I watched the Three Cups of Tea:Greg Mortenson on building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It was about why Greg went to the K2.In the school, there are more girls than boys.So there is a question about why schools appear this condition. They also talked about the book,Three Cups of Tea.What does the name of the book mean?Greg said with the first cup of tea you are a stranger:with the second cup of tea you are a friend;with the third cup of tea,you are family.

One penny is not only mean 1% of one dollar. We offer up one penny that means we have to do and want to change. A little things can have a big different. A penny can give Pakistan and Afghanistan’s children hope and let them we care them. Their live is so difficult. I even image live on there for one week, So sad. A people can change the world. Mr.Greg show me that. Pakistan was independent on 1947. Their education system is very poor, girl and boy have big different. Greg keep his promise to build the school on Pakistan and Afghanistan.

ReplyDelete2. There was a time when the Balti people in northeastern Pakistan had to emigrated from Tibet Hundreds years ago. Karakoram Mountains have become their new home, climbers now go there to climb k2. The river is Korphe’s main water source. Women and children usually walk 10 minutes to the river to gather water every day. The people have to produce crops in order to feed their families but it’s not easy to do so because of the climate and the landscape. So they have to travel to other larger towns to get stuff that they cannot produce themselves. Also when a Balti woman marries, she has to live with her husband and his family.
3. I learned that in 1993, Greg Mortenson was weak after failing to climb k2, the second highest mountain in the world, he meet with two friends and noticed that there was no school over there so he promise them that he’ll come back to aid the community to build school. Then after 3 hard years fundraising to do so, the school was built in 1996, he made Korphe Community School the first school in the Braldu valley. Heng, I agree with you. Penny is a little thing, but it give some of people hope.
ReplyDeleteIn Pakistan, value of a penny is a pencil. Even though it seems nothing, it can open the door for the children to a better education. If we see from the website, the village in Pakistan is isolated. They are basically poor, farmland isn't growing so well due to the weather. For schools, when Greg Mortenson first came to Korphe, there is no school at all, and the first school was completed in 1996. In Afghanistan, 39% of kids under 5 years old are underweight, and the economy of the country is based on farming. In Pakistan, the condition are most likely the same, since the school starts for children at age of 5 and divided into 6 levels. Pakistan also known that 38% of the children under age of 5 are severely underweight.
ReplyDelete@heng : Well, it's nice to know how the penny worth in other country. It's so helpful from what i think.

1) A penny in Pakistan or Afghanistan can bring lots of happiness into a child's life. They can buy pencil from it or use it in any other efficient ways to support their lifestyle.
ReplyDelete2) The village consisted of people who originally came from Tibet long time ago. They have inhabited the lifestyle in a certain way depending on weather mostly. in different types of weather, they lead their lives in some certain ways. The village is close to one of the highest mountains in Asia where every year people come to hike or visit. This is one main source for the people to ear money. Also, having water regularly is a huge problem for them. women has to walk a lot to carry water in buckets by themselves many times a day.

ReplyDeleteI think the way you've described the situation was really excellent. It didn't seem like that you're just answering the question but you compressed all answers into a nice writing paragraph. Your description was well written and organized. It also had a strong feeling attached regarding to the condition of those places and I could see what's happening there through your writing. I enjoyed it thoroughly and appreciate you for your good work.

The nation's economy is based on industry (textiles, food, processing, beverages, construction and materials), agriculture (cotton, wheat, rice, sugarcane and milk) and exports (textiles, rice, carpets, sporting goods, and agriculture products).

The value of a penny is nothing, but if we are able to collect as much pennies as possible, we can make tons of money. In this country we do not appreciate the value of a penny, but other people from other countries would give their lives for trying to get a single penny. I learned that people from this village suffer a lot. If they want to get some water, they wave to walk a lot and then they have to carry the vital liquid all the way again to their village. Mr. Mortenson decided to build a school because he saw that young people were writing and drawing in the sand with sticks. His feelings changed and he decided to help them by building a school. In Afghanistan, there is a lot of poverty. The 39% of children under 5 years old are underweighted, which means that those young people would grow up with many disabilities.

Although a penny doesnt seem to have a great value, I once heard someone said "from penny to penny you make a dollar". Its true, a penny is the beginning of something better, of something worthy, of something useful. I learned that the people from the village suffered a lot, they had to crop their own food, the didnt have good natural resources, and they even had to walk long distances just to get pure water from the river. I learned that Greg M. promised the people of Korphe that he would return to biuld a school since there were no school, he collected money until finally he returned to found the school in the year 1996. The three facts I learned from Afghanistan: 39% of the children in afghanistan are underweight. The economy of the country is based on their industries and agriculture. The education is divided into six levels. The video i saw was about a girl who was adopted, and wanted to find her real mother.
