Week of January 13, Reacting to Class Actions

Hi everyone,

This week we are going to react to the film "Class Actions" which we saw in class.

Please answer the following questions in Google Docs (again we will post your answers on our blog and the NIOT/NIOS blogs).

  1. How did the film make you feel and why?
  2. What risks do people in this film take by acting?
  3. Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
  4. What are you inspired to do now and why?
  5. What can we do to create a safer school?
  6. What questions do you have?
Now post your answers to our blog.

Then read 3-4 other students's posts (from another school), and write to them, answering:

  1. What did you learn from this post?
  2. What can you work on together?

  1. 1. At first in all of the stories I felt uneasy or upset that thse things are going on, but when I saw the effect that the people who stood up had, my mind was just blown because it doesn’t take many people at all to start to make a difference.

When “not in our town” was said in the third story it gave me goose bumps because its so amazing that such a simple phrase could change the school.

The third story was a little difficult to take seriously because they were younger kids and I don’t feel like what they had to say wasn’t really insightful at all. And I’m pretty sure that a kid doesn’t know if a child know wether or not he is gay at fifth grade. It just seemed pretty juvenial and didn’t really make me feel anything towards the students. Although at the very end when they got in the circle was my favorite part of the third story.

    2. People acting agains the Ole Miss Sayings are risking being hated or rejected by everyone who doesn’t see the saying as derogatory. The chacellor risked everything he had because he was just beinging so he was putting his entire reputation and political career on the line.

By putting up signs in Bloomington they weren’t really risking anything, because the majority of the community was willing to stand up and force out the hate that was just begininning.

    3. It was incredibly worth it to them to stand up and say something because they can now feel comfortable at games with out feeling segregated.

  2. I think it is worth it to take those risks because it is something that they strongly believe. If you are that passionate about an issue that they should take those risks.
They risk a lot for the issues that they believe in. Students are losing a lot of sleep and diet trying to change something. It seems that a lot of their actions might even be dangerous to themselves. But sometimes the risks aren’t that big but it can make someone become a leader and make a difference in their commmunity. For example, a meeting when people just talk to each other about all these issues, it makes people more aware and stand up to do something.

  3. I think it is right to suggest the change of the slogan, nothing they did was wrong, people thought it was an offensive thing to say “the south will rise again.” I don’t think people would mind if it didn’t have such a terrible past following with the phrase.

Hate crimes are ridiculous, they don’t solve anything, not all the people in the same race are bad. And there is no reason why you should hate on them, hate crimes make no sense to me.
Bullying is a confidence problem, I read in an article people bully other cause of self-esteem problems mainly or they bully kids just cause they feel like they are outsiders. Does a person who pushed someone to the edge to commit suicide really feel good about themselves? Or even feel responsible? I do feel bullying does need to get cut out, if people did more to help stop the issue, it wouldn’t be as big of a problem here in Lakewood or anywhere.

  4. There is always a risk of ridicule when one expresses one’s opinions. There is an especially great risk when these opinions are immortalized through a documentary scheduled to be shown to students throughout the United States. The students that chose to share their opinions risk being targeted by their peers and those who see this video and disagree with that they have to say. They risk being hated and strongly disagreed with by people whom they have never met. However, if the fear of sharing one’s opinion prevented everyone from sharing it, no change would ever be brought to the world. It is worth it for people to take these risks because in order to bring about change, as the students and communities in the video did, the fear of being disliked and disagreed with must be overcome.

  5. 1) How did the film make you feel and why?
I didn’t think that the chant was a big deal through my eyes. But the students that found it offensive took a stand and fought for what they believe in. I believe that when you are passionate about something that you should take a stand for it and that is what the students did and it’s very moving.

    2) What risks do people in this film take by acting?
They have to be aware because you don’t know if someone would rebel to what other students think and try to cause harm to others over opinions and beliefs.

    3) Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
It’s worth it because you’re voicing your opinion and what matters to you. Not everyone has to agree with each other but everyone should respect what other people think and what they have to say.

  6. I feel like some of the people in the movie came off as fake. I don’t think everyone took all of the situations seriously. People were up against criticism, especially the chancellors. It was worth it for them to take those risks because they needed change in their struggling community. They are trying to stop vandalism and hate. I’m inspired to try to change some of Lakewood’s problems. One of the biggest issues in Lakewood is that have many bystanders who witness something more than once and still don’t say anything.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The film made me feel inspired that other people were taking action against the social issues that were causing turmoil in their town. The people who stood up and took action faced many risks, like at Ole Miss the students who took the stand against the chanting of “the south will rise again” faced becoming social outcasts since so many students thought it wasn’t a big deal, and they also face punishment through the school for all their protests on school property and by attempting to change the school’s history. The activist from the other two stories also faces risks, such as making someone feel like an outcast through the bullying issue or because someone wasn’t Jewish. it was worth it for the people in the movie to take a stand against the issue effecting their community because they wanted everyone to feel safe in their own community and be able to participate in the community activities without feeling like they don’t belong or are alone in the community.

  8. 1. The film made me upset to know that these hate crimes and bullying still go on and to know how negatively it affects the victims. But its inspiring to hear the stories of these upstanders who realized what was going on and tried to change the situation for the better.
    2. People take risks by upstanding to hate crimes and fighting against bullying and doing what they believe in, they risk becoming bullied or becoming targeted with these hate crimes. They risk losing friends who don’t believe the same things as them.
    3. Its always worth it if your fighting for something you know is wrong, and its something you truly believe in.

  9. this movie helps people stop discrimination and bullying by showing how they affect people. These people believed that this cause was well beyond their own personal safety, wich will help others to stop hate. Doing this will help stop hate everywhere, hopefully for the last time. I will try to stop stuff like this as much as possible.

  10. 1. It makes me feel kind of glad that some kids are beginning to really understand that bullying isn’t just something that people can deal with. People kill themselves because of it. I’m glad that we’re beginning to look outside of the rose-colored glasses and seeing that it’s not just kids being kids, but actually a problem.

    2. By acting, you’re putting yourself up to be the next target or be labeled as something else.

    3. The risks are worth it because if you stand up and show that it’s not okay, even if it virtually does nothing, than you’re enforcing your beliefs, and eventually it may start impacting others to take a stand as well. Many people won’t take action on their own, but if others are than they’re more likely to do the same.

    4. In Lakewood, we have a problem with how people treat some of the mentally disabled kids. People like to act “super nice” to them , so that they can manipulate them into doing embarrassing things for a cheap laugh. I’ve always had a huge problem with this, so I do call people out about it and usually I get them to stop… temporarily. It’s more of an ongoing issue. But I’m inspired to keep calling the kids that have the audacity to do this to other people out on their wrong doings.

  11. 1. This film makes me want to stand up for something and save people from resorting to suicide or something. I want to stop bullying or racism or anti-gay people.
    2. They risk their place in peoples’ lives. Some people aren’t for their cause and that could hurt how they’re seen by those pro-chant. They also risk racial slurs and physical acts against themselves.
They risk their health. The anti-Semitics might go after those who are sticking up for the Jews.
They risked the plan not working and the bullying to not have any change.
    3. it’s worth it for them to make a change and save the feelings of others from getting hurt. They wanted to break this tradition so that everyone felt welcome and comfortable at Ole Miss and to keep people from getting offended.
It’s worth it to them because they know what is right and wrong and they want everyone in their town to feel comfortable and excepted and at home, rather than afraid for their lives.
It was worth it to them because they wanted to stop people from getting hurt or committing suicide.
    4. Lakewood should stand up for the people who don’t like homosexuals. Lakewood has a high population of homosexuals and a lot of people aren’t accepting in the nearby cities.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The video made me inspired and proud to just go in to the community and deal with racism. It also showed that there are people that do good out there even if it’s small it still spreads all over just the way how they started to deal with this issue in their community and now it’s all over the U.S.
They risked their life since the KKK was there and they were protesting just like and from what I know about the KKK they would kill who ever stands in their way.
The risks are worth it taking because they are bringing racism to an end well to some extent.
I’m inspired to deal with racism everywhere I go now.
Talk about racism and why people do it? Do they think they have the right to do it? Just have everyone be aware it so when they see it they can stop it or attempt to stop it.
Will they go out of their communities to deal with racism or will they just stay within their community.

  13. 1. A. I like how they use film clips from the past to make it more understandable. I think banning the chant only makes it worse, I don’t think it should’ve been banned whatsoever. All it does is create tension, and make it an obvious topic. The fact that the KKK came made it extremely bad. I honestly didn’t even know that the KKK was still active. If I saw the KKK, I would be terrified. Seeing them in this video scared me, and it’s not even like I should be scared, because I’m white.
    B. In the story about Bloomington, I think it’s amazing that everyone stood up for everyone. The fact that muslims stood up for jews and jews stood up for muslims is shocking. You would think since they have such opposite views on everything (religion wise) that it would be each other making the attacks on one another. That is very interesting that they stood up for each other.
    C. That school that made a week of action probably actually really helped the bullying situation.

    2. People take risks by acting in this by maybe threatening the bullies so that they can’t bully anymore.
    3. So they can put an end to all the troubles
    4. I am inspired to stop bullying if I see it in the hallways or on the streets

  14. 1. This film, especially the first story, made me feel like despite all the odds and apparent difficulty, ordinary people actually can make a difference. It was incredible to me the impact the college students had on the thoughts and opinions of those around them. Where a challenge such as the ones faced by these people would have seemed daunting and impossible before, the film made me feel that the effect of what we say and do is more than we think it is. The story in Bloomington was less impressive to me, but it still conveyed the idea that anyone can make a difference, whether to actually ban a saying or simply to make someone feel accepted in the community.
    2. The people in this film risk isolation from their peers, especially ones who are proud of their school and the “south will rise again” saying. It was very likely that some students would be angered that they could no longer say things like that, or no longer say hurtful things to their fellow students in California. Many students risked bullying themselves by standing up to a bully, and the students at Old Mis risked actual violence from KKK. Their Chancellor could lose his job, all his popularity and the support of the school and alumni.
    3. It was worth the risks to these people because it caused change for the better and togetherness, and changed people’s mind about the effect of words. It helped people feel more like a part of the schools, and community.
    4. After seeing the film I am more inspired to stand up and take action against something I might see that is wrong or unjust. The film made me realize that one, two or three people actually can make a difference, and change the way they and others see things. The biggest problems in Lakewood in my opinion are overall indifference to the unhappiness of others – whether through bullying or otherwise. People often seem unwilling to approach an outsider or attempt to make friends. I think that this would be a good topic to address in the future.

  15. 1) This film was very surprising to me. You don't see problems like this occur as frequently in Lakewood. I was happy to see all the people stand up together and fight against the problems that occured.
    2) I think the people in Mississippi definitely took a risk by fighting against the KKK. Angering such a hateful group could have great consequences and the students were very brave by taking action.
    3) People who discriminate need to learn that in this day and age it isn’t okay for them to spread hate. The ones who took risks realized that someone needs to stand up against hateful language so that it’s eliminated from the world.
    4) If I see problems like these occur, I will definitely try to stand up against them. The more people who fight against discrimination, the less it will occur.

  16. This film was really cool to watch. I honestly didn't know anything about ole miss before watching this, except the things that I learned from the blind side, which I think is kind of funny. But anyway I think that ths film depicted a problem that they fixed very well. Even when saying their chant of "the south will rise again" I didn't understand why it would be offensive to people but then I thought about it and realized what that could it could mean to someone. I think that they worked very hard and gathered a large group of people to support them in this action. Some risks that these people took by acting in this would have been being completely called out and judged but what they were standing up for, but in my mind if there was ever a risk of that and the said person couldn't handle it then they would not act in it. I think that its worth it to them to be in it to take those risks because it was something that they wanted to change. I would be inspired to do stand up for things in our school that I don't agree with.

  17. This film personally makes me feel a little shocked that these kinds of things are still happening today in or society. When the KKK showed up at the university to protest against the banning of the colleges saying was so surprising. I really didn’t think that the KKK was still really strong today. But I was happy that in the end that they had won by a peaceful protest.
The second story in this film was a happier one to me. The fact that the entire community came together and stood up for their “untied way”. No one was able to hurt anyone because of race, religion, etc.

  18. a. The film just reminded me that racism is still out here maybe not as open and as dominant as in earlier generations, but still here and I feel that even though these people are trying to change something that they feel is wrong, racism and hate will still be a factor in the unity of different races and even in different sex and gender preference./a. They take the risk of speaking up when other people wont. Also they take the risk of caring about something that other people might not even give a second thought about, come off as being too sensitive and wining./a. It might be worth it for them because it really hits home in some way. Maybe because they have to go thru this problem whatever it maybe on daily basis which makes it more important oppose to a person who doesn’t have this problem./a. I am inspired to maybe stand up for something that may not be that important to me but maybe important to someone else if it’s right. In Lakewood we don’t have any major problems but you know that it’s there just not in the open I guess. I think Lakewood is doing a pretty good job at saying ‘’NOT IN OUR SCHOOL!’’ with racial divisions.

  19. 1. This video initially was troubling because I wasn’t aware of how active the KKK was in the south. I was under the impression that they were mostly extinct. I’m glad that the song the southern school sang at football games was gotten rid of without too much conflict. I thought the video about bullying took the wrong approach to stop harassment in the school. I think schools should focus more on social thought among the schools community and teach the student body to respect each other. Using the word “bullying” in my opinion is counterproductive. Diversity should be celebrated (and not just cultural diversity). The idea of understanding why a person might act differently should be stressed. Schools should try to get rid of students’ incentive to “bully” other people by awarding compassion and understanding on a regular basis
    2. Students in this movie run the risk of receiving criticism from their peers.
    3. It is worth risking other people’s opinion of you because in the words of Martin Luther King Jr. “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. I think we all have a responsibility to act on injustices we see in daily life.
4.I would not exactly call this movie inspirational but I suppose it reminded me to keep the topic of human rights in the back of my head on a regular basis. Some of the biggest problems in Lakewood are, from my perspective, apathy and selfishness. An example of these traits exist in blind consumerism; when members of our community purchase products from big corporations that support sweat-shop labor, environmentally irresponsible production practices, or food companies that support factory farming ect. I feel that prejudice in general is always a problem even if there are less prejudice attitudes in Lakewood, I believe, then in other communities.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This film showed me that words can have a huge impact on people. They can divide groups of people and promote violence. It made me feel good at the fact that a few students can change a school and make it a better place for diversity. People that act against the majority are subject to violence. It’s hard to do what is right when there are so few people to help. It’s worth the risks to act because if someone doesn’t stand up, things may never change for the better. I’m inspired to act when there is a controversial issue at Lakewood. Even little things can make a difference. If you sit around and watch something happen like bullying, you are just as guilty. I don’t think there are any big problems at Lakewood but, there are small things that if we as a school try to stop they may not turn into big issues.

  21. The film made me feel hopeful. For the longest time I have felt most US citizens look out for themselves and don’t use any of their time to help others. I am one of those people. This is just a stigma I associated with all of us. Now when I see all the communities with thousands of people saying they will not accept this in their towns, all of them joining together to create a safe place for everyone, I am more hopeful in not only my country, but in my own ability to help.

Some risks involved in this film were threats, Klu Klux Klan involvement, violent attacks, loss of credibility, and just the overall fact that these demonstrations just might not work. There is never any guarantee that you can make an impact if you try something like this, people might not listen or in the worse case fight you.

Those risks are worth it for the people in the film because they want to put all of that ugliness behind them and come together as a community. They as a whole will never tolerate hate and discrimination. If they can get to that point, then all the trouble was worth it.

This film inspires me to just try to let other know I am here for them. Like all those people at the basketball game who were there for their Jewish community. Even in very small ways I just want to show that I care. So far the biggest problems I see in Lakewood are all the problems other cities deal with. Things like crime, poverty, racism, and litter (a lot of litter). We could stand up and say we don’t want any of these, just don’t ask me to organize it. I am a solider not a general.

    ReplyDelete
  22. When hearing about this movie, I thought it would be a bigger change, I thought it was going to show a larger change then just one community. At the same time it’s clear that this film is trying to show that one town can work together to change, and that’s really what this country is made of up of cities connected to each other. If one town changes it could have a chain reaction.
I honestly don’t see many risks that the communities or individuals are taking. Their lives don’t seem to be at risk, it’s just the peace with others and maybe their relationships with others that they are putting at risk.
It may be worth it to them to take those risks because it may improve their community or maybe only their daily lives.
I’m simply inspired to raise awareness of what others are going though with mental disorders, to raise awareness that others do not understand what people are going through. I think that if people really knew that maybe bullying wouldn’t be so bad, maybe instead bullies would become supporters.

  23. 1. How did the film make you feel and why?
It made me happy to find out people can stand up to hate and stop it from affecting their community and to make it safe for everyone. My favorite is about the Ole Miss story. I liked how the school peacefully protested against the KKK.
    2. What risks do people in this film take by acting?
People could have faced huge riots or mobs that could have attacked people who just wanted peace. Higher people can lose their jobs
    3. Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
School and community peace, unity, and lives saved are worth all these risks. People can come closer together and we can get closer to stopping the hate.
    4. What are you inspired to do now? What are the biggest problems in Lakewood? Regarding what issue should Lakewood stand up and say, “NOT IN OUR SCHOOL!”
I think we need to stand up against discrimination in our school. We have a very diverse population and everyone’s class is stereotyped for who they are or where they come from. We need to stop separating ourselves and just unify together and not worry about who people are and what they think of us.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This movie made me feel like I can make a change in my school. I feel like I could do something about problems in our school. I makes me feel that no matter how big your problems are, you can make a change. By watching this movie, I realized that no matter how big your problems are, there is always someone going through harder problems, wether it’s at home or school, and that taking the time to stop and help someone could change not just their life, but also yours.
I think the risks taken by the people in the movie are extreme. They face death, persicution, or even being hated by fellow students.
I think it was worth it for them because they got CHANGE. They got excatly what they wanted and it made them have a sense of accomplishiment.
I am inspired to make a change, To stand up and do something about the issues in our school. Some problems in our school and racial, but I think most have to do with homosexuals. I think for both issues we should stand up and say NOT IN OUR SCHOOL. Both of the problems lead to unhealthy learning envirorments.

  25. 1. This film makes me feel like more people should take a stand for what they believe in because its worth making your community and this world a better place.
    2. The risks people take by acting are losing friends and people maybe against you by being on the other side.
    3. It is worth it to take those risks because it can make a change for the better. It can change your community and the people around you. Fighting for what you believe in can also set a good example for others.
    4. I am inspired to follow what I believe and not be afraid to take a stand. I think some of the biggest problems in Lakewood are bullying. I think Lakewood should get together and discuss why people bully and how we can change it and make this a better place.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 1.How did the film make you feel and why?
This film made me very proud, because it shows me that there are a lot of people out there who still love making changes for the better. For people to feel better, to be safe, and not feel uncomfortable.

2.What risks do people in this film take by acting?
Some risks people take are they are taking the risk that people could have some hateriade towards them. They could also be in danger, people might take something very offensive, and they might take some action and maybe try to hurt the people/person that are acting.

3.Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
It was worth for them to take those risks, because they are making a change for the better, & it’s really important for atleast some people to take those risks, or no one will ever take those risks. & There will never be any changes for the better.
4.What are you inspired to do now? What are the biggest problems in Lakewood?
Something I am inspired to do now , is I wish there was a way to make a change maybe to make people treating eachother fair which will probably never happen, since there is always people that just like to bring people down. Which is a problem in Lakewood I think.

Something we can do to make this school safer is too maybe have people feel like they always have someone to talk to.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I kind of wish we had a program like that because I know we could make this really big because study proves there will be less bullying when people stand up. I know I would personally feel good if someone helped me out, especially if I was getting bullied or harassed. This film leaves you inspired to make a change, it’s like we can lend a hand to those in need.
People started out peacefully to protest, while others chose vandalism… courage takes a while to be gained but bullies don’t get anywhere at all. Thinking about it I can see that it makes people feel safer when others are there for them. Like when people stand out for what’s right, basically equality.
Because instead of just sitting there and getting the chills, bullied, and threatened YOU could STAND UP! You could save lives and make this a huge change.
I just want to stop bullying and hate so badly. I know I won’t catch everything bad but it wouldn’t hurt me to hear what others can say. I know personally that there has been bullying and threats and dumb jokes that really get to people. Lakewood is such a wonderfully diverse place that most the time you feel welcomed. I would love it if our school could help people out, we could create a safer environment for kids who are scared or worried. No swearing or name calling, everything emotionally getting to others.
People could then say NOT IN OUR TOWN!

    ReplyDelete
  28. This film made me feel good about standing up and fighting for a cause, all of the stories had happy endings. But it seemed a little thin most of the stories were basically summarized and they never really deeply got into the cause. The risks people took were that they could have gotten hurt physically or emotionally they could have been harassed and peers would look at them in a different way. They got out of their comfort zone to make a change. The reason it is worth it is because they create the opportunity to change something that they believe is wrong and most times they succeed and it betters their world. Some of the biggest problems in Lakewood revolve around racism and even though it is not blatantly shown, it exists and our school should stand up and say no.

    ReplyDelete
  29. This film made me feel as though we, as citizens of Lakewood, are doing a fairly good job in ensuring student safety in our school but we could do more. In this film students take the risks of being ridiculed by other students or members of the community for their views or what they believe is right. For these students and citizens of the community these risks were well worth taking because they strongly believed that what they were doing was right and no matter what others thought, this is what they felt was the right thing to do and they would be heard. Since watching this video I think the Lakewood community should consider going a little deeper into things such as the “Stomp out Bullying” campaign. I think the biggest problem in Lakewood is stereotyping. Lakewood should stand up on the issue of stereotyping and say “Not in Our School”.

  30. At first, the film made me feel bad because I have been a bystander in many situations. Afterwards, it also made me feel inspired to take action when necessary. Even though I have seen the risks of taking action like verbal harassment or even possibly physical abuse, I know that it is worth it. It is worth it because would be making a change in my community for the better. Another reason for taking actions even when I know how bad the risks are is fear of what would happen if action is not taken. I am now inspired to take action in my school. I think one of the biggest problems in Lakewood is verbal harassment. I have seen students made fun of by implications and not direct bullying. I will now try to stop the bully in this type of situation. I will also try to comfort the bullied.

  31. This movie made me feel pride and good that people would stand up for what they believe in and stand up for what is right and just. With Ole Miss, the students who stood up faced more desimanation; the consular could have lost his job because of public opinion. With the hate crime, the people who stood up could have faced more hate crimes and even violence. With the bulling, the kids who stand up to bullies could end up being bullied more. It’s worth it so they can stand up and stop what was going on. I am kind of inspired to find something unjust and try to do something. I don’t really think that there are any big problems in Lakewood.

  32. I think this was a very good film with a lot of interesting stories. It made me feel more informed of the different types of movements that are going on in different communities. It makes me feel good to know that there are people trying to make a difference with all the issues in the world no matter how small. It’s good to see kids, students and community members all come together and help out. It shows that there are people out there that care enough and are willing to go the extra mile for what they believe in. I think all the people in these 3 stories are very brave and determined. Despite the challenges and risks the all made such an impact in their communities.
There are many risks people take in this film. For example in the Ole Miss story, when the students stood up, they probably insulted many community members who might not agree with what they’re saying. So they could have many people against them and not supporting them right in their own social group. Of course it got even more serious when hate groups such as the KKK got involved. Since there are so many people with many different opinions, you never know who will be upset about what and how far they’d go to pursue those opinions. I think the risks are worth it because if they don’t do something about the issue now, then it will never be changed. That’s why I have a lot of respect for these people because they didn’t just stand by and wait for someone ELSE to do something; they themselves stood to make a difference. Also, these communities are their home, the place where they’ve lived most of their life and the place where they will be living in for years to come. So this is why these issues are very important to them and they affect everyone, everyday in their community and that’s what inspires and drives them to make their towns a better place for them and others.
If there was an issue that might get pretty serious it could be bullying. Even though the bullying isn’t that serious, I feel as though some people don’t take it as seriously as they should. I feel that bullying could turn into discrimination, racism and even hate crimes if everyone ignores it. But I feel that my town doesn’t have too many issues. But one thing I would be inspired to do is to help bring our community together and make sure everyone feels safer and happier in their own town.

  33. this film makes me feel that were not the only school trying to keep hate and racism out and feel that this film is very good at informing people about what is going on and to get people to act within communities. The chancellor was at risk of not being elected again and his reputation being ruined. The students risked their reputation also ruined. The students at IU stood up for a group that they were not even a part of the group that they were standing up for. I feel that it was worth it because these actions are what keep hate crimes and other things like that out of towns and schools.

  34. This film made me feel good because it’s nice to see that there are people out there all over the united states and throughout different communities helping to prevent conflict going on in there city. The risk they take is not being accepted among the people at their school or the bullies picking on them more. Nobody wants to be an outcast. It’s worth it for them to take the risk because they have to spread the world on these problems somehow and it will not hurt to get the problems out there. And maybe start a movement throughout schools all over the world. This has inspired me to keep an eye out for discrimination or people being bullied and to stop it when I see it around school or in the city.

  35. The film has made me feel bad for those in the targeted minorities of particular communities. It is awful to see a certain group being attacked by others just because they have a different belief system, or feel offended by a certain tradition. The actions of individuals can effect a whole entire community, and it is not fair for a whole community to suffer because of the individual conflicts that go on during everday lives. In the case of the Oxford community, a whole group of students felt left out, even though most of the citizens were just used to the traditional chant. Many of the people didn’t realize that their chant was offensive, yet the cheer built a seperation between the black students from the white students.
Those who decide to stand up against these problems can often be subject to danger. I think an offender sees that once a person stands up for an offended group, they place themselves into the category of that particular group. So whatever the upstander does against the offender, it could potentially build even more hate in the particular offender. By standing up for those in pain, they place themselves in a position with potentially high risks. It is worth it for them to take the risks though, because by them stepping in for others, they take away the isolation that the victims experience. Often times, standing up can often eliminate the problem and help soothe pain felt by the victims.
Seeing these stories has inspired me to step out during everday things such as bullying and racism. Even though we are so diverse in Lakewood, I know that there is still a racism problem, and if I can help eliminate it in any way I will gladly do so. Besides racism though, I think Lakewood High School deals with a bullying issue. We have had anti-bullying days to try to fix the problem, but I feel like many people weren’t effected by them at all. I think we need to individually focus on not bullying each other, and then the problem will dissipate. Even though a particular group of people can’t simply eliminate the problem, they can still do big things that help influence the mind of every single person even if its just in small ways. I think then bullying will not be a problem.

  36. 1. Seeing how so many people from all walks of life pitch in to help out those who are being bullied is great to see. Whether it’s a group of white students getting together and talking to black students or Indiana University showing their support by giving a jewish woman the game ball was very nice. Seeing all of these people pitch in and showing their support is a great reminder that there all many, many good people out there despite all the bad things we hear in the news.
    2. They take the risk of being ridiculed for helping others. They may be given problems from many other people who are bullying or harassing others.
    3. It is important for people to take these risks because it can truly make a difference in someone’s life. Whether someone Is going to be given trouble for others or not, it is important to stand up for what is right and trying to make someone being bullied or harassed feel better.
    4. After seeing this film I am more inspired to stick up for others, despite the ridicule I may face. I know it’s hard and often times I stay quiet in fear of being picked on myself, but after watching this I don’t think I will have that fear much more. The biggest problem in Lakewood I think is that students tend to talk mainly to people within their race. There are far too many students who aren’t being given a chance based off of their race. Lakewood, as a community, should make a stand against racism and embrace our very diverse town.

  37. 1. This film is a real eye opener. Sorta like, your eyes were open but you werent looking. It made me feel good on the inside that these very serious issues are being solved. It ( in a way) inspires me to either express how I feel and to stand up to bullying. What these College freshmen’s did was a very mature decision. Just like the Freedom Riders decided to be non-violent, that’s a really mature decision. Lakewood needs to open their eyes and realize how diverse we are. We need to stop with the racist jokes, outcasting people because they’re not the same skin color or if their not from the same place. Im not saying Lakewood is bad and that we all do it, but honestly some people feel their better because they were born in America. We don’t have to hold our toungs because were afraid of being judged. Were DIVERSE…everybody is different in their own way. Not a lot of suburban area’s have such a diverse group of people, therefore its much harder to get a feel and a taste of something different. I love the Diversity in Lakewood and theres no telling what we can do with it.

  38. 1. It was really surprising to me because I wasn’t aware that the KKK was still active and a part of the south. But, I think that its good that they ended up getting rid of the chant at the football game. In the next part I don’t think they were prodctive using the word bullying I think it would be better if schools used the word harrassment because it sounds more serious and that is good. In the third part I think its good they came up with a slogan and got there communnity to act like one big diverse community.
    2. I think they run the risk of getting verbally abused.
    3. I think we should be responsible and do what we can and hopefully people will follow in our lead.
    4. I think the movie is kind of inspirational. I think lakewoods biggest problem is harassment. Most of the verbal abuse comes by the color of that persons skin or if there gay or straight. I say this because I hear a lot of racial and ethnic slurs toword people while I walk down the hall and I don’t like that at all.

  40. I believe that this was a bold move. Instead of asking if people would stop bullying, they declared that bullying was not acceptable which gave the movment much more power. It was a risky move but it was powerful and was worth it ecause otherwise it might have failed. I was surprised by how little it took to start a movement, just a few people with a common goal can totally change the world around them. The first two stories were very inspiring but I had a hard time taking the third seriously. It was everything we had been spoon fed about bullying sense we were little. I felt nervous for the Ole miss people because it looked as though the movement could have blown up in their faces. As soon as the KKK showed up I knew for sure it was over because I fell that no matter where we go the kkk is regarded as a negative group and as soon as you make a connection between the KKK and something no matter what it is you want to feel negatively towards what they support. 41. 1.)How did the film make you feel and why?
    •Empathetic
    •Sorrow
The film made me feel this way because I've been in situations that both the bully and the upstanders faced.
2.)What risks do people in this film take by acting?
•They faced ridicule for standing up for what they believed was right.
3.)Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
•So they could confront the segregation from their past.
•So they could stop anti-Semitic vandalism.
•So they could stop bullying and suicides from bullying.
4.)What are you inspired to do now? What are the biggest problems in Lakewood? Regarding what issue should Lakewood stand up and say, “NOT IN OUR SCHOOL!”
•Problem: Anti-Semitic harassment, harassment in general.
•Solution: I want to get a big group of people together to spread the word that harassing someone because of their ethnicity or religion isn’t cool, harassment in general is not okay.

  42. The film made me feel like I needed to help the people who get bullied by telling them they should seek help by telling an adult. Im inspired how the people in the video are so obligated to stop bullying, it’s a good thing, seems like that school went from a small amount of sudents feeing safe to almost all students feeling safe at school…..

  44. I feel it’s sad that things like this with racism still occur. And I don’t understand how the police or security on campus had no say so rather or not those of the KKK who came were allowed to stand on the door of their University and protest racial rights. But I do love the fact that there weren’t just all African American students fighting for change with what goes on with the fight song etc. But the fact that white’s and those of other races were for putting it to an end in defense to the African Americans also. The bullying thing I honestly feel is beginning to get annoying. I wasn’t as interested in that story simply because I feel we hear things about bullying so much! And thought I may just be completely ignorant to the fact. I just don’t see it as HUGE of a deal that it seems to be made out to be. The person who came into office took of risk of jus coming in and completely trying to change the traditions of the school. Which gave him negative feedback from those of the university but he took that chance to make change no matter how long he’d been there, in order to make O Miss an better environment for all races. I’m inspired to speak out and be less hesitant about being an activist towards certain situations I feel strongly about. And I’m also more inspired to possibly learn more about bullying and get a better understanding about the statistics and effects bullying is having on our youth.

  45. The film made me feel comfortable and happy, because it showed me that something was being done, in more than one place, involving the right thing to do. Although it was the right thing to do for them by standing up there were many risks like; getting bullied also, or making matters worse by causing more of a reaction from the groups committing the crime. The students could have got into fights trying to defend other students, resulting in suspension or expulsion. It’s worth the risk though, because people have started to feel safe; which makes it a lot easier for them to focus on their studies. The film inspires me to want to look out for the little things and stop it before it causes big issues involving harassment. It opens my eyes a bit more to my surroundings when I am walking around in the hallways and on my way to class.

  46. The last time I witnessed bulling was yesterday. It was towards the end of the day and I was walking through the hall. There was a boy with autism walking in front of me. I remember in the beginning of the year we had a group session and he talked to us and told us things about him. One of the big things I remembered was him saying he hates being touched. As I looked up I seen a different boy walk by and said tag your it and taped him on the shoulder. I know that it’s probably not a big deal to anyone else but to him I bet he felt like he was being tormented and I just watched the other boy walk away. I seriously regret not saying something to him.
You can stand up for those kids who can’t. Stand up for those kids who feel weak. You could also talk them up and be there friends. Have your words empower them and help them keep their heads up.

  47. 1)It made me feel good because of how people trying to solve these problems that are going on and because of the violence that went on and still going on now and working together as one big group and not giving up.

2)There’s a lot of risks these people take in this film by acting people might start looking at them different or they might get bullied.

    3) Because they want to stop all this stuff and they know they can stop it by acting this and telling the world what’s going on.

4)to tell people about everything happens to me and not be afraid, the biggest problems in lakewood is bulling.i think lakewood should stand up and say no racism in our school this is what i think one of the biggest issues in lhs.

  48. This film to me was great. It made me feel a wide range of emotions and it covered different types of hate crimes that a lot of us lose sight of because Anti-Semitism, offensive slurs, and bulling still goes on today, but to hear a success story is great. The risks these people made were admirable, some were greater than others, and sometimes it seemed that the risk was way higher than the reward, but it paid off at the end like the Ole Miss story halted an age old tradition that offended a numerous amount of people, and by getting rid of it, it kind-of brought the community together to fight for one cause. Also, it’s kind of funny because it happened in all of the stories because the both communities came together after these horrible incidents to make sure they don’t happen again so it was definitely worth it. This video show that normal people can make a significant changed in their community if they’re passionate about their cause. In Lakewood I believe we are doing a good job at not allowing hate crimes to take place because of our experiences with diversity for the past few years, but there’s always room for improvement.

  49. This film made me feel hopeful that people are taking the needed steps to fix something they are not satisfied with in their communities. It was proof that it really only takes one person to step out of their comfort zones so other people feel safe to do the same. The risks people took were the chance that they could be attacked by opposing students in the community and that their reputations could be tarnished if they did not receive support. It’s impressive to see how the students of Ole Miss did what they thought was right even if the KKK was threatening to protest. It was also inspiring to see how they followed in the ways of people who came before them in history and used what they saw was effective, such as peaceful protesting, again. It is worth it for the students to take those risks because it will make their experience at their schools much better and positive and continue that for generations to come to promote diversity and embrace it. I’m inspired to, if the right time approaches in the future, to stand up for what I believe in even if I’m the first one to do so because it’s worth it and I know I have the courage to take the first step after watching all of these students do the same.

  50. The film did a great job of including different perspectives; it didn’t focus on the same people throughout. I’m glad that in each town the community came together to support those who needed it. In Mississippi, the chancellor was new. He risked losing the community’s and university’s respect. The students risked their well-being. Supporters of banning the chant were threatened. They also risked being potentially hurt by members of the KKK. I’m glad that they non-violently counter protested. My favorite part of the Mississippi story was the best friend who used to chant loudly, but then asked to join in the counter protest. In Bloomington, the community risked being attacked by the people who vandalized. In Lakecaster, the students risked being bullied themselves. They took these risks because they believed in their cause and knew that it would make the community a better place for everyone to live in. I would say that Lakewood doesn’t really have that many issues. I haven’t seen anyone bullied or discriminated against. Students might need to learn boundaries for jokes, but for the most part I don’t know what the biggest problems in Lakewood would be.

  51. This movie made me feel like I as an individual can make a difference in our town and not just be a bystander. These people take the risk of being rejected by the community and having their cause almost swept under the rug. If you can make a change in your whole community it will always be part of your legacy and will always be a part of the city in which you live. After this movie I am inspired to be a leader and make better decisions that could possibly influence and make my school and my town a better place.

  52. How did the film make you feel? Why?
It makes me feel hopeful for the future. People are changing and becoming more tolerant, which makes the world a better, safer place to be.
What risks do people in this film take by acting?
    -Social seclusion
    -Problems with the public
    -Facing the KKK
    -Further persecution
    -Hate crime killings
Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
Taking risks means winning, and winning means less hatred among the class room, the campus, and eventually the country.
What are you inspired to do now? What are the biggest problems in Lakewood?
Maybe if Lakewood High does an anti-bullying week again, I could put together a small presentation for an assembly. The biggest problem in Lakewood is people who don’t know where to draw the line. They don’t know what a joke is and what really hurts people.

  53. The film made me feel a little angry knowing that so much hate and bullying is going on in the world but it also made me feel really good and inspired knowing that so many people are trying to change things and make their community and schools better and safer for everyone. The risks the people in this film take by acting are the risks of getting bullied themselves, and being targeted by people who don’t agree with their actions. It is worth it for them to take those risks because it means that the schools are a lot safer and people are happier and have a feeling of safety knowing that people are there that will help them if they need it. I am inspired to be an “upstander” now because one of the biggest problems in Lakewood is bullying against people of a certain race, religion, and people who are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgendered. That is something that really needs to be changed.

  54. This film made me feel good and better about how people in schools are not always not caring and intolerant about how bullying or similar things happen to others as long as it doesn’t to them because of how many people wanted to and did make a difference.
They could get made look like a fool and they could get hurt by others who saw them and didn’t like what they said and they might want to hurt them.
I think it is worth for them to take the risk because they believe in what they are fighting for, but I cannot really speak for others and im sure different people have different reasons.

  55. This film made me feel more aware about issues going on in different communities. I felt this way because the movie gave me a good understanding of issues such as bullying and racism. Many people take numerous risks in this movie. Many of the kids trying to stop bullying have began groups and organizations to help stop and prevent it. Others have created organizations for racism and other issues. It is worth it to them to take those risks because it is what they think is right. They do it for themselves and others. I know feel that Lakewood should start new programs and organizations to help prevent these issues arising in other communities.

  56. The film made me felt very upset because I didn’t know that those things are happening in America. And we need to do something to help those people who need our help. The people in the film risked their lives and they being hated from some people. It worth them to take those risks because they can change lot of bad things that’s going on in their school or in their town.

  57. I like the film, specifically the part about the south. The usage of the football game to help the speakers make their point was a good choice to start with because it drew my attention. The clip with the woman speaking after the chancellor about how she didn’t agree with what he was doing was also a nice choice; it made the issue seem more real because there was a representation of opposition. I like that it was mostly students that took action. Being a student myself this is more inspiring than having an adult take charge- it makes me feel like I have the power to do something. The clip with the university creed is a nice way to tie the story up. The risks the people in this film take by acting are many. They could be ostracized from the community/university and may face being physically hurt by people from the opposing force, and maybe even death. That they would still go through with it despite the risks is awe-inspiring. I think it is worth it for them to take these risks because everyone should be able to be comfortable in their environment, whether a community or school, and by doing this these people have somehow bettered the world and maybe inspired others.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The film made feel like Lakewood could do this same thing and have everyone get together. It made me feel good about how all these people could solve their problems in their town. It also shocked me that people in the KKK still do this and harass people because of their race. The risks that people take are being attacked by the KKK or getting bullied themselves. I think it was worth taking those risks because it is standing up for what you believe in and I think anybody should be allowed to say anything they want or stand up for whatever they believe is right. I am inspired to act out on what I think is right. Some problems in Lakewood are bullying and racism. The issue that Lakewood should stand up and say “NOT IN OUR SCHOOL” is to bullying.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I really enjoyed the first story because it showed how the students of Mississippi brought issues to the adults who might not have been paying attention to the chant. The second story talked about how hate crimes were committed toward the Jews and the Muslims. I like how everyone stood up and reacted fast. I really like how the Muslims helped the Jews which proved that it doesn’t really matter what your religion is, when something unjust happens, you must stand up. In the last story of California, I liked how the kids all gathered around in a circle and said, “Not in our town!” By doing so, they emphasized how the issue of bullying will no longer take place among them. I would like to see more of how the school changed after they made this commitment to stop bullying.
People in this film risk getting hurt by the KKK, and getting hurt by hate crimes. I find this very brave because this is saying how what they are trying to accomplish is more important than their well-being. They have their minds set on getting justice and this is why the risks are worth it. The biggest problems in Lakewood are people not realizing when something is offensive. We speak freely which is a good thing, but we should know the difference between a joke and saying something offensive. Lakewood should stop kids from thinking that racist jokes are okay. There is a line between a joke and a racist comment and Lakewood kids often cross it without realizing or seeing that what they are saying is offensive.

  63. This film made me feel good because people are fighting to stop these issues by doing activities, organizations and posters but also aware about issues like hate crimes, racism and bullying because I can understand better how people can feel about this, the risks that people can take by acting is that someone can rebel, they can do what just they think or believe, another risk could be more hate crimes or organizations of racism and bullying. People need to be aware nobody is going to know the next step. It is worth it to them to take those risks because what they think is right, they’re trying to show everyone that they need to stop these issues. I am inspired now to stop bullying if i see something bad happening. They do it for themselves and also they want to help others. To create a safer school for us is that we need to start or suggest new programs and organizations to help prevent and stop these issues like in the film showed us.

  64. 1. I felt very upset about what I had seen. Those harassment and bullying made me uneasy. However, I was glad about the brave students stood up in the community and school to fight against those.
    2. Those people might be in danger because they are out there in public. They might become the target and attacked.
    3. It is always worth for everybody to take those risks because the actions of fighting for human rights are dedicated and important for the entire society.
    4. The movie inspired me much. I avoid some problems if I see something. However, after watching movie, I realize that I must stand up next time if I see anything unfair.
5.The safe school cannot be created by one person. It should take the effort of everybody in the school. Once everybody realize the importance of safe school for self and others. We can then proudly declaring,” we are in a safe school”.

  66. 1.How did the film make you feel and why?
I enjoy this film because I saw first time this kind of documentary where show many students try to finish discrimination in the community that they live. It was incredible saw many students in one single place where says “ not in our school” I like more this because in many school students are bullying but these film are good examples where we can learn many things.
2.What risks do people in this film take by acting?
Some of the risk that people from this film took was go to the people who are doing these thing like in the KKK and get the information from the people that they never know how they act.
3.Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
I think this is a excellent worth to take the risk because Many people whom to learn this things like how people was discriminate many years before but in this new society many people are take risk to teach respect and love to make a beauty and safety society to live.
4.What are you inspired to do now and why?
I ‘m inspired to do these things because many people can learn from these films. Many people don’t know what it is about, They sometimes are discriminate by others people by the culture or religion But at the same time this people can be happy to see others people want to help them to have a safety community or school that all people love.
5.What can we do to create a safer school?
We can do to create a safety society poster and teach all students that discrimination and hate only create a terrible society in which in live in the future and in which we are suppose to help to create a better society day a day in the live.
    6.What questions do you have?
Some question that I have are: In this country what is the percent of discrimination exist in this country?
Why is the main reason that people are discriminated? who are the people with most discrimination?

  67. 1. i felt good because now i think schools all over the U.S are getting up to fight against bullying and hating each others and that means schools are going to be safer then they were.
2.There is lots of risks that were taking in this film some of them are, that people might hate each other and than start killing each other.
3.It worth it to take those risks because like that people will realize that what their doing is not right and all people are equal black, white ,gays etc they are all humans and the bullying should stop even if people are going to sacrifice with their lives.
4.To start talking to people in my school about bullying and how to stop it, and inspire them that bullying is nothing good at all, even though kids might be scared of you or something.

5.We put up posts talking about bullying and how to stop it and create a group of people who would talk to others about bullying and stuff.
6.Did bullying stop completely in some of the schools that the films were made at?

  68. 1.How did the film make you feel and why?
At the beginning I was a little bit upset because I noticed that there is people who really don’t try to change their mind or feelings, there are people with hate on the streets and we don’t know if one day we could become the victims.
2.What risks do people in this film take by acting?
As I said there’s still people who are discriminatory, racist, etc, etc and they could try to take down or harm these persons who are trying to improve their schools, they would have to fight against the people who think differently to them.
3.Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
Maybe because one day they want their children or family to live in a better world in peace, and because if we don’t try to change people our situation will become worst and we won’t be secure.
4.What are you inspired to do now and why?
Now I have more courage to talk, to speak loud and to stop all those problems in our society that are affecting us more and more.
5.What can we do to create a safer school?
We can make meetings with teachers and students and talk to them about the situation that our schools are facing, also we can make programs to make all students work in something special against bullying, discrimination and racism.
    6.What questions do you have?
How did their schools improved after the meetings and programs that they did? Is there still people who tries to harm these organizations?

They are under pressure.having trouble of eating. And their action will put them into a dangerous condition.
Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
By taking risks their action, students are making changes, they speak out their options.
What are you inspired to do now and why?
I am inspired to stop bullying if I see it in the hallways or on the streets
What can we do to create a safer school?
As what we are doing , making posters, create videos, etc.

  71. The film makes me feel inspired. Small action could lead to a big one if we keep supporting it. It’s really cool to know those people and I hope they keep doing it so more people would feel the same way as I do. People in this film risked their life and career because they might be threatened by all of the racist around them. Even though it’s scary to be threatened, it’s also worth it because they got to do what’s right and what’s supposed to be done long time ago. Right now, I’m really inspired to do more community based activities that supports diversity. In school, we could also look after each other, we could promote public safety and anti-hate and anti-bully environment so that all of the kids in school feel safe; anytime and anywhere. I still have question regarding the situation in Mississippi, are the KKK members still threaten the kids who supports diversity?

  72. 1. I feel very impressive about the film. Because I saw the positive reaction for the evil(not right) treatment. People usually hide themselves to avoid the trouble, so they can protect themselves without saying anything to the discrimination or prejudice. But I saw people in the town get together to flight against to the devil, which give me protection.

    2. 3 different place took 3 different risks such as Life Danger, Losing Job, fear and so on. And they took those risks to flight for Human Rights.

    3. They have done what things are right. The things they did, they believe which are good for society and good for their people. They can not stand with those unfair treatment and hate crime.

    4. I am very encouraged by what they did. I personally want to join one of their organization to volunteer, because I feel I have responsibility to do things for Human Rights while others are doing it for me.

    5. I think what we are doing in Ms. Mann’s Human Rights class is very helpful. We made video about Human Rights class, posters about Human Rights class. And later then, we are going to class to teach students importance of Human Rights and how to respect others in order to get respect.

  73. I feel very inspired because the thing I learn that Small action could lead to a big one if we keep supporting it. I also saw here the positive reaction against those people who discriminate other people. People in this film risked their life it’s scary but they want remove those racists around them. They have done what things are right and they believe that which can be good for the society. They cannot stay in front of unfair hate crimes. I am very encouraged of their work i wish if we could do in every community there will be no hate or discrimination around the society. I think what we are doing in human rights class it’s very helpful and it will be very effective in our school. We made the video, posters about human rights class and may be we will take more action to do something in our school for safety.

  75. I feel so encouraged, there’ re still many people are willing to fight for Human Rights, even though there’ re still many discrimination, hate crime, bullying, etc.
Some people may get in trouble because they are always alone.
it worth for them to take those risks because this dis-peaceful things happen everyday and around us, we can know it deeper.
A safe environment is very important for students, in order to create a safe school, we have wake students up and tell them about some information about it. Because it can make students realize these problems.
Who is most possible to be the target of discrimination.

  77. The films that we saw in class were really touching . Those people in the video really were very courageous. I mean, you need to have a lot of courage to be able to do those sort of things . And they did the right thing to not be bystanders but actually do something when something is not right .And they are taking big risks here . For example the chancellor that was in Mississippi . He wasn’t even in the job for over year and he took a big risk that can affect his job by going to the students side and helped them . I believe he had this big courage because he knew what the students are trying to do was right .It is worth for them to take those risk because they fought for what they believed in and in the end everybody agreed with them . After watching these different films , I learned a big lesson not only to fight for our rights as people and treat each other equally but also to stand up for what you believe in and to never be a bystander if you see something bad going on .I mean here at school we already have this class , human rights class, but we all know that not everybody knows what human rights are and they just do whatever they want . So I still believe that having knowledge on this topic will really help so that it’s not only going to be us from this class that will protect the rights but everybody and we will have a safer and peaceful school. And it will also be nice if our class also have a class action like they did :)

  78. 1.How did the film make you feel and why?
this film make me feel confident and emotional because it is my first time to see a clip like that and it is really awesome to see student trying to do anything to finish discrimination in their community that they live. It was very emotional when many students where saying “ not in our school”
2.What risks do people in this film take by acting?
I saw many risks from student, and a group of college students. The first was the student speaking about how they felt in stories about being bullied but the most extremely was the college boy speaking in front of the people and saying how he felt and also fighting with words to the KKK group.
3.Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
I think it is something valuable and others will do the same and say oh he speak up I can do it I am not alone. so is inspired for other and showing how much they care.
4.What are you inspired to do now and why?
wow this movie was touching and inspired all my friends but for me is to join other organization and start to helping specially about bullying or other problem. also to learn more about my school and community in how I can help if something bad happens because I was afraid before but I am not anymore.
5.What can we do to create a safer school?
We can do a lot like in the video we can teach teacher how we felt when someone cause us trouble, make posters, doing video clips and showing to the classmates and talk about them that what they are doing is wrong. last but not least also came together and scream “NOT IN OUR TOWN”
    6.What questions do you have?
In this country what is the percent of BULLING exist in this country?
how can we join organization like this one about discrimination?
what are the schools doing from the movie are doing n their community?

  79. 1, In those stories, all the students and teachers actually show the support to the respect for the human rights. This is the part that makes me really happy . And there are some way that they are doing can gave us some ideas how to introduce human rights to other.

2, People in that film might face some threaten form their peer. Not everyone really thinks everyone is equal. Peer pressure is very hard for them.

3,I think it is worth to take this risk. if we can do something really meaningful , something really can influence the community, we should go for it. beside that , we don’t need risk our life for this. so, we can take this small risk to make the community better.

4,I am going to talk to my friends more about human rights, my friends all have good behavior, but they don’t know about human rights that much. i need to talk to them about this more. And if it is possible ,i will encourage my sister to take this class.

5,just like we did before , we need have more students sign up for respecting of human rights. and we also should make it happen that teach our students more in seminar class.

  80. The film make me feel inspired because I saw in the play that people are taking action against the social issues that are causing problems in their town. those people who helped others and tried to make changes faced a lots of problems and faced risks themselves. So its good to know about them and get encouraged by them.
The risks that the people in this film take like for example Ole Miss the student who take the action and stand against the chanting of the south will rise again” faced many problems. like the other some students thought that it was not a big deal. And they faced the problem for making a new change in the school, and change it rules. It inspired me to make a change like not being Bystander but also do something that can help someone who has bullied. We can do many things as a class in our school but One thing is that in our school many peoples don’t even know what is human rights . So first thing we should do is teaching them what is human rights mean and may be this will help to make a better community and society.

  82. 1.The film makes me feel really happy because because it shows that people are actually reacting back to the bad things that others do because of their Ethnicity, beliefs, or others.

2.They are taking risk by putting themselves in danger.I mean they could be the next victims or they could threaten them.\

3.It was worth it for them because they were successful at it.

    4. I am now more inspired by seeing the movie because now, I can be a role model to others and I can spread what I learn to others.

5.To create a safer school, we all have to stop bullying from happening and say something if we see something that is not right

    6.I have no question.

  83. 1.How did the film make you feel and why?
I think it it a very good idea to make those kind of movies that are documentary and will educate the audience. Personally this film makes me feel inspired to fighting for human rights, and to give my support for those who are opposed.
2.What risks do people in this film take by acting?
People in that film faced discriminatory, racist, etc, etc and they could try to take down or harm these who are trying to improve their schools, they would have to fight against the people who think differently to them.
3.Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
Maybe because one day they want their children or family to live in a better world in peace, and because if we don’t try to change people our situation will become worst and we won’t be secure.
4.What are you inspired to do now and why?
Now I have more courage to support those who are opposed or bulling and to stop all those problems in our society that are affecting us more and more.
5.What can we do to create a safer school?
We can make meetings with teachers and students and talk to them about the situation that our schools are facing just like we saw it in the movie, also we can make programs to make all students work in something special against bullying, discrimination and racism.
    6.What questions do you have?
How did their schools improved after the meetings and programs that they did?

  84. How did the film make you feel and why?

I felt kind of support because what these people did by stepping up and fighting back made me feel good so now after i see something i will stand and say something back.

What risks do people in this film take by acting?

In my opinion they didnt take any risks, they just did their job by stepping up and say their opinions. I would love to see more people doing the same thing all around the world.

Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?

Of course it was worth it, not any one can stand up and say something, only people how are brave and know they will change something can do something this doesnt mean people who are weak have to stay aside but they can join and help.

What are you inspired to do now and why?

now, if i see something like we saw in the movie like bullying, or whatever, i will stand and try to help the people who need my help.

What can we do to create a safer school?

we can teach the students about all of that and about human rights which will help them to know what to do when they see something wrong.

    What questions do you have?

I dont have any question i just want to say good job for what you did.

  86. How did the film make you feel and why?
This film made me feel sad in some ways because I don't like to recognize that there is a lot of bullying in our communities, but also happy because I know that many people cares about this problem and they want to stop it.
What risks do people in this film take by acting?
Many people can hate them, and maybe to things against them.
Why is it worth it for them to take those risks?
It is better for them because they know that they are doing something helpful to their community.
What are you inspired to do now and why? To also step up for others, because I know that it can help to stop hate, and in that way we will have a peaceful world.
What can we do to create a safer school? Educate the students, as the schools of California, because many of the ones who are bullies don't even know what bullying is, and they think that that is normal.
