Week of January 3, Teen Homelessness

Hi everyone,

This week we will explore further the issue raised by Clevins Brown in In My Shoes, teen homelessness.

Please go to this link to read about myths related to teen homelessness.

Now go to this link to learn about the causes and follow the links to see what you can do.

Finally, answer these questions in Google Docs:

  1. What did you learn from the film "In My Shoes"? What lasting impressions did it leave with you?
  2. What myths did you believe about teen homelessness? What do you now know isn't true?
  3. What do you think you can do to help end this problem?
Post your answers to our class blog and then respond to your classmates' posts.

  1. What does No Place for Hate mean to you?
it means that we as human beings will not discriminate others based on sex, religion, education and so on. We will treat each other equally as we treat ourself. So everyone will live in peace and the world will be much much better place.

In what ways are you helping our school be a No Place for Hate school?
I can help spread out words about No Place for Hate school. In the school, when I see someone does something not nice to others, I will stand up and stop that person. And tell him or her how important is that we treat others equally.

What activities did you see in the resource guide that you think we should do as a class?
We can make posters together about No place for Hate. If it’s possible, we can also make videos, because visual effects will be stronger to convey the idea.

  2. What does No Place for Hate mean to you?
For me personally No Place for Hate means when we expose young people to other cultures and faiths, celebrate diversity and promote respect for differences by leaving no space for prejudice and discrimination.

In what ways are you helping our school be a No Place for Hate school?
I speak out against discrimination and let others know if someone is being bullied based on prejudice. I help others students be aware of things going around in school and get them involved in making the school safe for everyone.

What activities did you see in the resource guide that you think we should do as a class?
We should come up with something like“I am unique because…” on construction paper, and post the statements around the room. I think we should do a song regarding No Place for Hate. I would love to have a guest speaker come and share their experience with the class.
